No, we don't need open_back for that. We already have open-back_dress and i distinctly recall seeing something like "bareback_outfit" or something similar earlier today I just can't recall exactly what the tag was.

Open-back_dress implicates dress. Therefore, it is meant only to describe a dress with an open back.
Open_back is the umbrella tag and this should stay this way.

Perhaps you're recalling backless_outfit.
There is poverty_outfit, but that is something else.

Gosh, the English language appears to be full of those slang terms. I can already see myself replacing the normal dictionary with the urban one.
The tag bare_back would match the naming pattern of bare_legs, bare_back, but perhaps exposed_back would be the better / more accurate term.
I can't really make a recommendation here. This is a job for native speakers.

I think bare_back is fine as is, it matches the other bare_X tags. The sex meaning is definitely not the first thing I'd think of in this context, is not spelled the same (no space: "bareback") and also means riding a horse without a saddle.
In addition to backless outfit and open back, there's also a backless tag. Of these three tags, surely we can agree that at least one should be pruned.

I agree, we don't need all three. There appears to be some minor difference in how they're used, backless outfit and backless is mostly clothes with no back at all, while open back has more clothes with some back, but part of it is exposed. It seems we can at least merge backless outfit and backless.

Well, here are a few examples: post #2130609, post #2335657, post #2113515, post #1485201, post #1050626. All clothes have an open back, but don't expose quite enough to qualify for bare back.
