Pokémon tag cleanup (locations, moves)

Posted under Tags

It has come to my attention that a large number of minuscule tags are being created for the Pokémon franchise - more specifically, they are tags for in-game locations and Pokémon moves. A majority of these highly specific tags have a count of less than 5, and more often than not the count is closer to 1. This seems like rather superfluous overtagging, especially when umbrella tags would be able to take the place of almost all of them. The problems (as I see them) and potential solutions are listed below.

Locations
Each individual Pokémon game brings with it many in-game locations. However, most specific locations are rarely ever referenced in posts, which means that after being tagged we are left with many tags with a very small count.
Instead of tagging each individual location, I suggest creating the game_location tag (which I'm surprised doesn't already exist). It would function the same as anime location and real world location, but for games. This would also solve the same problem for any other games that might be affected.

Moves
There are hundreds upon hundreds of different Pokémon moves, and over 250 of them currently have a tag. This is fine for moves that are often referenced in posts, such as Transform and Substitute, but most of these other move tags have a count of three or less. About half (~120) are only present on a single post.
A user on Discord (thanks, BreastExpansion98!) suggested they be merged into an umbrella tag titled pokemon_move, which would be much easier to use and search than hundreds of tiny individual tags.

I created most of these tags for Pokémon moves, abilities, and locations. I talked about it a little on Discord after this discussion was created.

A few points:

1- We already have pool #4837 (Pokemon Moves and Abilities). I created that pool back in 2012.

2- Feel free to choose between using a pool or a tag for keeping many Pokémon moves together. Either of those is fine with me. But if we create pokemon_move, I guess we should also create pokemon_ability as a separate tag. (the pool currently mixes moves/abilities together)

3- I created those Pokémon move/ability tags based on existing moves from other media, like kamehameha (Dragon Ball) and hadouken (Street Fighter).

4- I'm curious to see how many people are using those Pokémon tags. Don't we have search reports somewhere? For instance, someone recently uploaded post #3454012 and added attract_(pokemon) which is a Pokémon move.

5- I see the point that we may want to delete most of these Pokémon tags as underused. Most currently have only 1 post. As discussed on Discord, maybe we could keep only those tags with a few more posts like substitute_(pokemon) (29 posts), attract_(pokemon) (10 posts), and solar_beam_(pokemon) (4 posts). If we delete the underused tags, I also offered to edit a wiki linking to the posts that show each specific move.

6- Personally, I'm not happy that many Pokémon moves/abilities/locations have 1 post each; the ones with more posts seem more useful in my opinion. Still, if I could choose between keeping or deleting these tags, I would prefer keeping them. If someone is interested in a move, or remembers a post where some move appears, typing the move seems an easy way to find what we have about it. These tags are also easy to ignore if someone is not interested. We have thousands of tags with few posts, so that seems normal: post #3229052 is the only post tagged capybara_tail; post #1609918 is the only post tagged colt 1903; etc.

7- As discussed on Discord, many Pokémon moves and abilities need to be mentioned in text or commentary in order to be identified. For instance, post #1071840 is Diglett using Aerial Ace, as said in the comic text. If we ignored the text, it would be just Diglett flying a plane. I'm not sure how the "tag what you see" rule applies here. If we can consider the text, then that post is a clear reference to Aerial Ace.
