#other tag usage

Posted under Tags

Somewhat related to topic #17099, I've noticed that the #other(s) (1other, 2others, etc) tags are frequently being used for non-humanoids, particularly animals (post #3991299) or even mecha (post #3869772). The other tags were meant as a counterpart to the #girl(s) and #boy(s) tags, so I think other tags should be restricted to humanoid beings we would typically associate with human sexes and for non-humanoids it would be better creating a new set of tags for them instead of lumping them together with unidentifiable sex or neither sex humanoids.

I thought this tag is for characters whose sex can't be identified, either canonically (that's where the tags comes from) or simply because there isn't enough information.

The latter isn't really what the intended meaning of that tag, when it was created, was, though.

1other is meant for people only. If it's not something you would tag as 1girl or 1boy, then it's not something you should tag as 1other.

I think the wikis for these tags should be updated to make this point clearer, as it wasn't immediately obvious to me. They simply mention "one _ character", which doesn't intuitively mean people only.
