Tag Alias: powerpuff_girls -> the_powerpuff_girls

Aliasing powerpuff_girls -> the_powerpuff_girls.

Reason: This one has no odd characters, and precedent (LoZ).

Shortcut request also for ppg or /ppg, whichever.

What's precedent on this, anyone know? I'm inherently trained against having "the" at the head of a title because of the line of work I've put my education and career towards. It just seems like there are a lot of titles that technically could have "The" at the start, and we don't do it. Though I suppose putting most titles in the original Japanese makes the point moot.

Thoughts?

I guess that's one example but I think I still need more convincing and opinions from others. I wouldn't necessarily want accepting this to be precedent for doing this as a rule though.

Doing a tag search for copyright tags beginning with the_*:

Yields 55 instances, but only 12 with more than 10 uses, and the only real common one is The Legend of Zelda.

I don't know if that means we should use "The " or not as a prefix, but at least it shows precedent. Also, as you allude, many of these tags are from western series, since Japanese titles almost never include articles.

From a librarian's perspective, including "the" is undesirable. Almost everything could have "the" in the beginning, clustering things unnecessarily. It's healthier to skip that.

That's where I'm coming from, pretty much. An initial "The" is either relegated to the end after a comma (not desirable in a tag) or eliminated entirely.

Libraries, however, might not have the advantage of aliases, nor of color-codedness. Since most generic tags probably don't involve "the", it's easy enough to see the title tag among a post's calling cards.

On the other hand, I am not a librarian...

They still have the disadvantage of clustering a lot of things around "the", making for instance wildcard searches harder to get useful results from.
