Regarding the upload formula

There are some things I don't understand about how it works.

Specifically, how is the first number of the formula created? There isn't any info regarding this in http://danbooru.donmai.us/user/upload_limit

It seems to be 10 for most users, it's 6 for me and apparently it can even be negative (-16 for http://danbooru.donmai.us/user/show/23799)

Also, if the upload limit is clamped between a range of 0 and 20 (with the exception of contribitors, mods, etch) why do some members have higher limits (37 for http://danbooru.donmai.us/user/show/18240)

I believe it's a number that's adjustable for each user, to allow rescuing a user from upload limit hell by raising it, or to throttle a user when he starts uploading too many bad pics in a row despite a good record previously.

What's shown there is just the result of the calculation. The REAL limit is then clamped to within that range. So even if it shows more than 20, you can only have at most 20 posts pending moderation.

I figured as much, but how exactly is the number created?

Does it have to do with scores or something, or do mods and janitors adjust it as they see fit?

Not that I think it's that important, but I think some clarifications are required in order to make users more careful regarding their uploads.

It's set by admins and admins only. Which for practical purposes means jxh2154.

I should note that I think I've only done this maybe half a dozen times ever, and I think all were reducing slots to zero for people who were being banned. I think most people who deserve an increase are probably just being invited. So albert might be doing some too.
