fresh_pretty_cure or fresh_precure?

Posted under General

I noticed that the tag fresh_precure! is being used for the newest installment in the pretty_cure series. The Japanese title is "フレッシュプリキュア!" and I was under the impression that would come out as "Fresh Pretty Cure!".

I'm really not all too familiar with the series, so is there something I'm missing or can we alias it?

... Well that was a totally helpful response!

Danbooru already has the tag futari_wa_pretty_cure for the original series. The title for Futari wa Pretty Cure in Japanese is "フレッシュプリキュア", プリキュア being purikyua. The title for Fresh Pretty Cure is "フレッシュプリキュア", and プリキュア reappears here as well. In English, Futari wa Pretty Cure was marketed as "Pretty Cure" from what I know, so I would think that is the official English title.

What baffles me the most is that we are already using the tag futari_wa_pretty_cure but something with the exact same Japanese in the title is being tagged as "precure".

I would argue that this case is a little different from the Ookami to Koushinryou case, since while 狼と香辛料 is kanji and "Spice and Wolf" a translation thereof, プリキュア is katakana that is clearly trying to mimic some or other word or phrase in English. Since there is no standard word プリキュア, we have but the English text in logo to help guide us.

That is, of course, assuming the English text in the logo is official. I'm not familiar with this particular franchise myself.
