Rename hikoboshi and orihime

create alias hikoboshi -> niulang
create alias orihime -> zhinu

Use pinyin as chartag like chang'e, nezha_(mythology) and sun_wukong.

You don't need both a rename and an alias at the same time, just the alias will suffice.

I'm actually against this alias. Reason being is that even though Tanabata is indeed a rehash of the Qixi, there's not that many people who know the two characters by their original Chinese names. It's mostly the Japanese names that have acceptance in overseas fandoms due to the fact that it was the tanabata that was popularized in the postwar era with the export of anime overseas, and not Qixi at a time when China was associated with red scare and negatively looked upon.

It's like referring to Byakko as Baihu (ditto for the other celestial beasts). The "Four Gods" is also a case of the Japanese names being more familiar than the Chinese originals due to extensive use in anime/manga/games.

My suggestion is to flip the alias so that the Chinese names are aliased to the existing Japanese tags. We have a precedent for a similar scenario where certain Chinese mobile games use the names they're best known for and their original Chinese-language names are aliased to them.

I agree with ArcieA. I imagine more users here will be familiar of them through Japanese anime and manga, so the Japanese names will probably be way more recognizable than the Chinese names.

Should Orihime have some sort of qualifier? There are a number of other characters that are named Orihime as either their first name or surname, and after doing a search I can see 9 other tags that are just Orihime with a qualifier.

Respecting the acceptance of the community is important. Given that few posts use Chinese names, fliping the alias seems meaningless.
