Implicating virtual_youtuber on a character basis?

Posted under Tags

[The virtual_youtuber tag] should apply to not only virtual YouTubers themselves, but also to parodies of virtual YouTubers, references to them... -virtual_youtuber wiki

Is there anything that prevents adding an implication to the virtual_youtuber tag on a per character-basis? Not scalable? Fringe cases?

Based on the wiki definition, it seems like it should broadly apply via "reference" in any situation the character would get tagged, even if they're not present (e.g., character dressed in another's outfit, which is the first case I searched around for where the tag has multiple cases where it's not applied), and then obviously in any case where the character is present.

Browsed around to see if there was any discussion on this, but the most relevant thing I found was a thread from a while ago that seemed to lean towards nuking the tag entirely.

We don't do cross-category implications as a general rule, so unfortunately this idea is dead from the start.

More like it's impossible on a technical level, you can't even submit a BUR for it.

Aside from the lack of cross-category implications, the issue is that it would also add the vtuber tag onto every post where an non-vtuber character is cosplaying a vtuber because of the implication

My interpretation of the wiki entry was that cosplaying as a vtuber would be a "reference" and thus should be tagged.

That might be your interpretation, but that's not how things are handled in practice.

The wiki seems pretty clear on this.

This tag should apply to not only virtual YouTubers themselves, but also to parodies of virtual YouTubers, references to them, fictitious virtual YouTubers, fake virtual YouTubers, and concept art that ultimately isn't used (for the latter three, original should be used).

I don't know how we're supposed to justify to people that cosplaying as a vtuber isn't a reference, which the wiki plainly says should get the tag. The wiki is pretty explicit that an actual real life vtuber doesn't need to be physically present for the tag to apply.

I'm just stating how it is in practice to my knowledge, blindVigil. I don't even remember why that's been the practice for the past half decade or so, but non-VTubers cosplaying as VTubers seems to have been treated differently for ages now.
