Probably not a concern, but apparently double-sided axes or double bit axes are also in use in the US as a forestry tool. The value for forestry work is it allows workers to not have to carry two axes, and the two edges are kepted at different degree of sharpness for different tasks. The sharper thinner edge for soft straight grain wood and the less sharp thicker edge for things that might cause chipping like knots or limbs.
