Windows desktop

Posted under Tags

So, I've been gardening the versions of Microsoft Windows and I came across windows desktop. What is even the point of this tag? Either the post is clearly featuring Windows branding or GUI and should be tagged Microsoft Windows (windows_desktop microsoft_windows) or are just generic depictions of computer windows, which is already a tag.

Some of these aren't even Windows. post #7664249 mostly resembles MacOS to me, even if it has some elements of Windows.

If we wanted a tag specifically for computer desktops I don't think it should be Windows-specific, also things that aren't actual desktops get tagged with this too?

nuke windows_desktop

Redundant and also unnecessarily specific tag. Images that clearly depict a version of Windows should be tagged Microsoft Windows, images that depict generic computing windows should be tagged window (computing).

For images actually showing a desktop, a desktop (computing) tag could be added to replace this tag on those. Other OSes have desktops too, microsoft_windows desktop_(computing) should then return Windows desktops without the need of an extra tag.

BUR #29370 has been rejected.

mass update desktop -> desktop_(computing) -desktop
deprecate desktop

While we're here, this tag is also ambiguous between the GUI element and "desktop computers", which usually just means a monitor or computer tower are visible. I'm just gonna move the latter to the appropriate tag and the posts that actually feature a desktop GUI can be moved with an update.

...Apparently sometimes it gets tagged for just desks, too...
