Making the Impending Doom pool a tag

Posted under Tags

It'd be nice if some of the downvotes could explain why Impending Doom is any different to something like Food of Doom, or Loaded Interior. It's not some esoteric abstraction, it's an easy-to-grasp concept and as such should be a tag.

It's not. We tend to not really tag atmosphere here. Like you don't see posts with "cozy" or "sad" as tags. Plus the wiki would be a nightmare to define.

Sad is a tag. So is happy. They apply to characters expressing these emotions, however, rather than the atmosphere of the post as a whole.

We have horror_(theme), abstract, depressed, betrayal, and even out_of_character - there are many existing tags that describe intangible aspects of a post, such as its atmosphere. However, on a scale of subjectivity, "impending doom" would measure about the same as any of our imminent_x tags.

To say that the concept of "imminent doom" is just as subjective as what counts as "cute" is a very poor comparison - whether or not post #5464101 is cute is entirely down to personal taste, but the character in post #7933872 is, by all measures, objectively screwed. "Impending doom" is an objective, taggable concept that shouldn't be delegated to a pool.
