Splatoon player character Implications request

BUR #37016 has been rejected.

imply 1 & 2:Creates an option that unite both species of player characters under one tag
imply 3 to 20: All of these names are official promo characters meant to represent different players, thus they should imply (and be a subsection of) the player_character tags.
alias 1 to 4: All of these are alternate names of their respective characters, they just so happened to be used in slightly different places in official media.

on one hand 99% of Splatoon fans don't even know these promo characters by the name-design connection. they only they know exist at most. it's definitely too much to ask Splatoon uploaders to tag these

at the same time the categorization and archival of these promo kids is still at least pretty admirable, so I at least want to thank you in that sense

but yeah you should have brought it up in another forum post whether it's even worth it before creating and populating these tags

the Idol alt tags you made are fine, but some of the wikis I saw were very wordy and bloated. see callie (octo idol outfit) (splatoon). character alt wikis should really just have a brief description and an embed of the design at most. I'd really suggest fixing these (if you or someone else doesn't I'll plan to fix it sometime)

inkling player character and octoling player character also don't need another umbrella. they're searchable enough and I know some admins aren't a fan of layering implications so much when it's not exceedingly necessary

I agree with this. We don't need player_character_(splatoon); it'd just be there for the sake of having it.

The main reason for why I'm suggesting an umbrella term for player inklings and octolings are primarily due to the two-tag search limit for the majority of people who visit this site. They've become more and more similar to each other as time has gone on, especially after the launch of Splatoon 3.

Say you'd want to look up Splatoon characters without the player inklings or octolings clogging up the results. You'd have to search splatoon_(series) and then either pick between -inkling_player_character or -octoling_player_character, but you can't do both. Having an umbrella term would solve this issue while making the two-tag limit less intrusive.

As for the idol alt tags, the octo outfit one for Callie was the first one i made and it used to be a lot larger, but i have trimmed it down over time as per requested by approvers, builders and moderators. However the quantity of trimming recommended has been different from person to person.

I was going to eventually request implications and aliases for those as well, after i had eventually reviewed how many there would be at the end.

If you're interested in more, help:cheatsheet has a list of things you can use in the search bar to improve your searching experience. That specific trick is called wildcard.

Either way, if nothing comes out of this, the promotional character tags have already been made.
Now they just kinda look a bit messy on the posts they're in, unfortunately.

I figured that they'd at least look a bit cleaner if they got that "nested tag" icon next to them (which I assume requires them to imply the tag its meant to be nested under) that way they can immediately, visually answer the inevitable question a viewer might have of:
"Wait, who is this character-name for?
Oh, it's the orange inkling girl from Splatoon 1.
I see.
Wait, they actually have names?"

That kinda deal.
