Metroid: Power Suit vs Power Armor

Posted under General

The wikis claim that difference between power armor and power suit is that the latter doesn't cover the whole body like full-body armour. Samus is even given as an example of power armor. The problem however, is that Samus' armour is in fact named "Power Suit" in the games, and because of this people just tag power_suit on Metroid posts, using it as the name of the armor and not as the gentag it's supposed to be. Arouund a third of power_suit posts are in fact Samus' power_armor.
I think we should have a power_suit_(metroid) tag to differentiate Samus' unique power armour to reduce mistagging (and imply all the suit variations to it while we're at it).
The problem unfortunately goes deeper than Metroid since there are like 600 posts (not counting Metroid ones) that are tagged with both power_suit and power_armor, when only one of them is valid, so a lot of gardening would be required.

Oh wait that tag already exists

Huh, I totally missed that. I would have expected for it to be linked in the wiki pages, but the pages for all the suit variations instead link to the generic power suit tag.
I think this makes the mistagging even worse because now there is no good reason for taggers to have missed it. There are lot of posts missing it, but at least it makes it easier to go for implications.

BUR #39775 has been approved by @nonamethanks.

create implication fusion_suit -> power_suit_(metroid)
create implication ped_suit -> power_suit_(metroid)
create implication gravity_suit_(metroid) -> power_suit_(metroid)
create implication varia_suit -> power_suit_(metroid)
create implication light_suit_(metroid) -> power_suit_(metroid)
create implication dark_suit_(metroid) -> power_suit_(metroid)
create implication phazon_suit -> power_suit_(metroid)
create implication metroid_suit -> power_suit_(metroid)

The wikis are fixed now (thanks to baconmeh) so the implications are next in order.
I'm unwilling to add Zero Suit because it's so different from the others. Most people aren't searching for the Zero Suit when searching for Samus in her power suit.

Yeah this is what I was referring to earlier. It'd be more sensible to imply all of the suits to a kind of chozo_power_suit tag, that encompasses any wielders of suits/armor derived from chozo technology (Raven Beak, Gray Voice, the X-infected we see in Dread, etc from Chozo Memories in Samus Returns). The zero suit not being one officially (to my knowledge).

What upgrades? What the hell are you talking about?

This suit, right here. What do you tag it with, after power_suit_(metroid) gets turned into a dumping ground? Answer the question.

According to a Pixiv article, the term "Powered suit" (パワードスーツ) appears to be used when referring to the suit technology itself. Whenever referring to the base form of her suit, the wiki uses the term "Normal suit" (ノーマルスーツ).

Text from Prime 2, when attacked by a Rezbit, suggests Chozo Battle Suit Ver SA1-4468-VM6-P.

There's also mention of the "Legendary powered suit" (伝説のパワードスーツ), or Fully powered suit, suggesting the Varia Suit upgrade isn't exactly the source for the round shoulder design/etc. At the same time it is the source of that design, but it's only owed in part because of the Ruins Test bestowing her with it.

The "Legendary powered suit" and "Normal suit" could use a bit more research, as I haven't found any citation on either term.

If we did find evidence suggesting the base form power suit is called "normal suit" in Japan, then we'd probably want to rename power_suit_(metroid) -> normal_suit_(metroid), and imply all suits to -> power_suit_(metroid). That evidence preferably coming straight from instruction manuals or in-game text.

There we are. The first word from page 28 of Super Metroid's manual states "Normal Suit" (Not the text in red).
