Miko rename

Posted under Tags

BUR #40829 has been rejected.

create alias miko -> traditional_miko
remove alias miko -> traditional_miko
deprecate miko

The way miko tags are SUCK and should have been changed ages ago.
Miko as a tag is horrendously prone to misuse, as already complained here and likely many times before it, the naming convention doesn't do it any favors either.

Your average tagger is well-known to be lazy and/or stupid and deadly allergic to reading wiki pages; even in the rare off-chance that one would read one, the most numerous nontraditional miko by tag count has a wiki page written like this, which is honestly just self-inflicted griefing.

Thus, to eliminate existing tag ambiguity and guessing, miko should be renamed to traditional miko and then empty miko deprecated, leaving us with nontraditional and traditional miko, which should eliminate the vast majority of misuse.

Tag is too big to use rename so using (un)alias instead.

Yeah this is one of those cases where nontraditional cases outnumber the traditional cases, so the traditional miko tag should've been qualified a while ago. We don't have it as "nontraditional bowtie" and "bowtie", its bowtie and traditional bowtie.

Wait, for consistencies' sake, wouldn't it make more sense to alias nontraditional miko to miko then? It's not a big enough deal for me to make a fuss over, but I like consistency lol. I do think switching the current miko to traditional miko makes more sense overall.

While evazion has said before, "as a regular user it is incredibly frustrating how established tags are constantly moved around for no good reason" (said in the context of users thinking whether v had to be changed because it seemed ambiguous), I think this is one of those cases where a change has to happen.

Nontraditional cases often outnumber traditional ones. The rise of Blue Archive forced the creation of traditional nun and traditional halo, traditional youkai had to be created out of youkai because people kept mistagging it, traditional bowtie had to exist because bowtie is broadly defined while the traditional tag refers to the thing people actually call a bowtie, traditional ninja is an obscure tag that's supposed to function like traditional nun, and now we're matching the nontraditional_* tags in number (discounting nontraditional poke ball because its wiki implies it's actually original_poke_ball, but Poke Ball (Basic) would make that name confusing, so here you go).

If we want to prevent continued mistagging of miko, it has to become traditional miko (whether or not nontraditional miko should then become the new miko is a completely seperate discussion). And as NNT has highlighted above, the only way we'll see this change is if we come together to garden miko right now in preperation of that move.
