messy tag

Posted under General

I was looking for a tag that can represent a messy table such as in post #9290261, and I don't think messy_room fits the description since it's not quite right.

Then I saw the messy tag which the wiki description is

Images depicting characters covered in substances other than cum, slime, soap, water, sweat, etc. Usually dripping food on one's self while in the act of cooking, baking, eating or spilling. Basically the non-sexual version of bukkake while still capable of being sexually suggestive.

TL;DR like bukkake but just suggestive at best???

I think the description is very different from what most people have in mind; something like a state of being untidy or chaotic. And due to the tag being so misleading, the posts tagged with this don't always reflect what the wiki description is about. Such as untidy appearance (post #8548645, post #8627841, post #8913354) or messy_hair(post #9289974, post #9279701) or messy table (post #8375392, post #2547833) or messy eater (post #7750317, post #7662394) and many NSFW stuff that definitely involves cum or slime. It's... such a mess.

So with that in mind, should the tag be deprecated due to ambiguity, or should the tag stay but with the wiki description being changed to be more general? Do we even need a replacement tag that serves the current wiki description of messy?

This tag should be just like the posts that you cataloged as messy eater (following the wiki definition) and I think there is value on a tag like that. However, "messy" as a name is ambiguous and messy posts look more like a pool than an actual tag. I would like to deprecate it and replace it with more specific tags like the ones you mention (messy hair, messy room, messy eater) and maybe a well defined pool.

Also, is there a tag/pool for untidy appearance? I have been wondering for a while

I think it's not just messy_eater since the description also mentions cooking or baking. And the earliest post of messy is post #157, where the character is not necessarily cooking or eating, but she has chocolate_on_body (chocolate writing) that doesn't necessarily feel all too messy to me due to it being controlled/intentional.

Also, I just found out that there's a tag clutter that seems to fit what I needed. But it just seems to be heavily underutilized (around 90 posts) compared to messy (around 2.2k posts).

I think the word "mess" or "messy" would be at the top of everyone's head instead of "clutter", so people are more inclined to use that tag, not knowing its intended use in this site. Still, the intended use is really weird because yeah, it is ambiguous as hell.

+1 on deprecating, it's a textbook case of a tag with an ambiguous name that's covered by several more specific tags. the only thing keeping me from being fully on board with deprecating right now is that i'm not sure if we have a replacement tag for the "untidy appearance" cases.

My first thought for a replacement would have been something like "disheveled clothing". Turns out we already have a disheveled tag, though the definition in its wiki is a bit broader than just clothes.
