create alias middle_part -> curtained_hair

This is not a very good idea, I don't think... (´・_・`)
(As a foreword, this is my first forum post, so sorry if I get some formatting and things wrong...)

Both are used for what seems to be the same subject [...]

This is not true! I know, because I'm a girl with long hair who currently has middle-part bangs, and has at various points also had curtain bangs, both middle and side-parted. Curtain bangs are a kind of subtype of bangs, whereas a middle part is more generally where your bangs part at your hairline. You see, if I went into a hair salon and said, "I'd like curtain bangs," the hairstylist would ask, "would you like them parted to the right, to the left, or down the middle?" Here are some examples of what I'm talking about:

post #200120 -- This image is featured on the parted bangs wiki page as an example of a middle part. This is a perfect example of middle part bangs NOT being curtain bangs; the bangs are flat to the head.

post #9537401 -- This is a great example I found of curtain bangs NOT being a middle part. As you can see, the bangs are considered 'curtained' because they rise from the part of her hair, the hair arches up so you can see the underside of her hair, and then curves back down again as bangs. And of course they're side-part bangs, since the part of her hair is to the side over her eye.

post #9528989 -- Here's a good example of where I think you're getting confused. A good majority of curtain bangs, it seems, are parted in the middle, as they are in this image. And thus, going through the tag it can seem like curtain bangs and middle parts are the same, but there's more to it than that!

As for why the middle part tag is so criminally underutilized... well, I don't believe it's because only 249 posts on this website have images with people with middle parts in them. I think it's because of a few factors which all feed into each other:

First of all, on tag group:hair styles, middle part is notably missing under the 'Front of the head' subsection under the 'Hairstyles' heading. We have tags listed such as asymmetrical bangs, parted bangs, swept bangs, crossed bangs, diagonal bangs, et cetera, but there's no mention of middle part at all, even though it's such a common type of bangs to have.

Second of all, on the bangs wiki page, you have to scroll all the way down to see the example image of post #200120, but the caption of it doesn't even mention middle part at all! It says, and I quote,

parted bangs - For distinctly parted bangs

...even though it's a textbook middle part! In fact, nowhere on the page does it mention middle part bangs. Or the tag side part, either.

And thus, since no new users see the tag on the tagging checklist or on the bangs wiki page, nobody knows that the tag is there. And since nobody knows the tag is there, nobody uses it. Since nobody uses it, the tag never comes up on the suggested tags for a new upload. Since the tag is never suggested, nobody uses it. (;へ:)

...I know nobody asked for my opinion, but I would structure it in a way where there's two 'components' to tagging bangs: the part (or lack thereof), and the style. Here would be the tags describing the part:

middle_parted_bangs: Bangs parted in the middle, as per post #200120. 'Middle' I would say would be defined as 'the part lines up generally in the area between the eyebrows.'

side_parted_bangs: This would be any bangs with a distinct part that's not roughly on the center of the head/between the eyebrows, like post #9448347, post #9404137, post #9377994, et cetera.

non-parted_bangs: This would be bangs that are kind of ambiguous about where the part is, or are swept back in a ponytail so you can't see the part. This is commonly seen with straight-across uniform bangs, or wispy bangs, where the part is kind of disguised, like post #9546515, where all the hair just seems to be coming straight down from the hairline, not from one central place. Same with post #9533975; where is the part? Only god knows...

double_parted_bangs: This is pretty obvious; like in post #9547442, where there are two distinct parts.

As you've probably noticed, I think it would be helpful if instead of the tag being 'side_part' or 'middle_part', it was instead 'side_parted_bangs' or 'middle_parted_bangs'. This is to help ease confusion (so no "huh? Middle part? The middle part of what?"), and also so that, when typing in 'bangs' into the search bar/tagging a post, all of the variations of 'bangs' come up with it, which would encourage use of the tags.

The rest of the remaining tags would be describing the style of the bangs. All of these styles are kind of independent of where the part is, or if there even is one. (Except for center-flap_bangs, which I do believe implies double_parted_bangs pretty strongly, since you have to have a part on either side of the 'flap' for it to look like a flap.):
arched_bangs, asymmetrical_bangs, bangs_pinned_back, blunt_bangs, braided_bangs, center-flap_bangs, choppy_bangs, crossed_bangs, curtained_bangs, diagonal_bangs, colored_bangs, fanged_bangs, long_bangs, loosely_tucked_bangs, parted_bangs, short_bangs, swept_bangs, v-bangs, and wispy_bangs.
(These were all listed on the bangs wiki page, but I didn't go looking for more, so god only knows if there's more bangs-related tags out there that have like 12 uses...)

Anyways, I'm sorry if I sound completely insane... it's just that the whole bangs family of tags have been driving me a little crazy whenever I go to tag a post, and when I was looking at the (non-existent) wiki page for middle_part and saw that someone wanted to alias middle part to curtained hair, my first thought was OH PLEASE GOD NO DONT DO THAT ∑(°Д°;;;)
