(Maybe) more annoying Ave Mujica tagging stuff

Posted under Tags

So, for a while the members of Ave Mujica have had tags for their specific stage outfits (which they use both in-universe and IRL), and these tags work really well. A while back a slight variation was released (second image below), but these still follow most of the same designs, so using the tags for these is probably fine.... (I think, I hope)

But now we've gotten new outfits in a grey theme:

It doesn't seem like they will permanently change to these outfits on-stage, since their upcoming tour uses the original outfits in the announcement Tweet:

... but it seems likely that they will use them for at least 3 performances, as they are also shown wearing them in coordination with MyGO!!!!! for this key visual:

Now, the problem is with tagging. The original tags (Doloris, Oblivionis, Timoris, Amoris, Mortis) are used as stage outfits (which they treat as if they are alternate personas), and they work well for this. They are also valuable for getting a "vibe" across, since the band also uses them as stage names. For example, even a change in Togawa Sakiko's hair ribbon color from green (matching Haneoka school uniform) to black (matching Oblivionis) is a conscious decision by the artist, and the Oblivionis tag captures this.

These new outfits break this concept since they are definitely too far removed from the actual costumes for those tags to still apply, but the aforementioned stage name stuff is still present. I think in a normal case, a gentag for the event (named Ulterius Procedere) would suffice, as was done with MyGO!!!!! (bang dream!) for Mitsuketa keshiki tazusaete, but I think the whole context surrounding this band warrants some more discussion.

As for my opinion, I am not really interested in making the character tagging any more complex than the absolute bare minimum, but it feels conceptually wrong to not tag stage outfits with Doloris etc.. Maybe a gentag for the event would be sufficient to distinguish between the two, giving us doloris_(bang_dream!) -ulterius_procedere for the original outfits and doloris_(bang_dream!) ulterius_procedere (provisional) for these new ones?

I don't really have any better ideas than to tag art with these outfits with the Ulterius Procedere event gentag even if that's technically not 100% correct if they're going to wear them at other lives since their first reveal was the Ulterius Procedere key visual, after briefly checking merch with these costumes and recent VA tweets they don't really refer to it with any unique name so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I do think they should still be tagged with Oblivionis (Bang Dream!) and such.

Let's start with the default for how we tag other band outfits. The default is that, since the outfits don't typically have canonical names, unlike gacha characters, they don't typically get chartags. Instead, if they get tagged at all, they get a gentag which corresponds to the song or event in which that outfit shows up. So, you can get to a specific outfit by searching character + song, which is a two-tag search but gets you the same result as a skin tag.

Ave Mujica is an exception. We created Doloris (Bang Dream!), Oblivionis (Bang Dream!), etc, because these are not just nameless outfits, they're in-universe alternate personas. The Bang Dream! character Misumi Uika herself also acts out the character of Doloris within the masquerade created by Togawa Sakiko, a fictional universe within a universe. Still, on Danbooru, they effectively function as gacha skin tags.

(Mortis is obviously a complex further exception, since the name "Mortis" does double duty in canon as both the masquerade character and Wakaba Mutsumi's split personality, and the split personality appears in real life, not just the masquerade. See topic #30398.)

So how should we tag new outfits for the Ave Mujica characters? I disagree with the two opinions above. If Doloris is a skin tag, then it should be tagged only when a specific outfit is present. If Doloris is a chartag for a canonical alternate persona, then it should be tagged only if we know that the masquerade persona is being represented. So far, there is zero canonical basis to think that the new outfits are anything more than just something thrown in to spice up the promotional art. If the characters don't canonically wear these new outfits as part of the masquerade, then I don't think they should be tagged as Doloris, Timoris, etc. I think it should just be Misumi Uika + gentag.

Ulterius_Procedere should be fine to be that gentag, I think.
