Purging vintage content

I've had the urge to go through the 'photo' tag and flag for deletion quite a bit of stuff; in particular, 'real' pornography that got posted a long time ago before it was against the consensus. Probably it'd be a good idea to keep stuff if it has a fairly high score, or a certain number of favorites. Stuff like cosplay should be left alone, too. But even then there's probably a lot of stuff that isn't relevant to danbooru's purposes anymore.
Would anyone have any gripes with this?

I've had to resist the urge many times to just mass delete stuff that, today, isn't accepted.

It normally wouldn't be an issue for me, but there seems to be an epidemic of people bumping really crappy year old or older posts with pointless comments.

And then there's the constant arguments "Why did you delete my gurobestialmotivator? There's like 10 already on the site! [cough2yearsagocought]".

If we purged that kind of stuff, we'd get less of that, but oh well. At any rate, I do think we weren't going to purge, but I'll certainly look the other way if you do...

So... vintage posts cause people to leave shitty comments and make shitty arguments. What reason is there not to delete them, again?

Worries over losing favorites, I guess, but then if the image really shouldn't be here anyway... Well, see what some other mods and albert say, if we decide to purge some tags I'll be all for it.

I say death to them. I've been regularly purging crap, especially photo porn, whenever I stumble upon it. One tag I remember was prune-worthy and which I didn't have the time to clean up was "nana". I'll kill it when I have more round tuits, or maybe if someone else wants to do the honours, I wouldn't mind.

I should add that I'm more lenient for less crappy (just off-topic) posts with a lot of discussion and/or favs, but for plain porn, there's no reason to keep it.

Good idea, nana nuked. Well, the porn ones, not the Nana anime or Elfen Lied character of course.

Getting rid of a lot of those non-danbooru-related images would definitely make this world a better place.

I'm against deleting vintage content. It seldom pops up in searches or comments anyway, unless some idiot posts "ZOMG Y IS THIZ ON DANBORA" on it. Most of the bad content is getting posted *now*.

I'm also not a big fan of it. I just think it's part of the site, and deleting it is like trying to erase a bad memory.

Yes, as the site opens up more the quality goes down. That's unavoidable. But now we have moderation in place, and a large chunk of it does not get through. Though as mods or priviliged users, we're still stuck looking at it for awhile until it vanishes. No way around that really.

But when the site was open previously a lot of junk got posted - more than makes it through now in my opinion.

Surasshu - and that would be great, but we can't do it yet in our heads. We can on danbooru however, so why not? It's not like keeping some bad porn from 2005 on the site makes it somehow more "authentic" or interesting.

I'm voting for leaving it alone unless it breaks rules. I, for instance, have flagged every furry image I have come across for deletion. Even if it wouldn't get approved now, it's not a huge deal if it stays, whereas if it breaks the rules it should be purged.

Maybe you're right. I feel kinda like it's "wrong", but other than that I can't put my finger on why. But I'd certainly never miss it if it was gone.

Well I mean more like for cases where it's like "ehhhh this probably wouldn't get accepted today but it doesn't really break any rules" I didn't mean it to read like I was suggesting anything as bizarre as purging anything more than a year old.

Check the dates on the images.

One upped 2 months ago, deleted.

I really like the new Danbooru because it is far far cleaner. used to have to go through many pages to get past a junk dump. I am def. glad to see the porn go and return to the illustrated art and even limited CGs (although some CGs can be nice if if it's kept like 1 per game without the GUI since many of these characters are based off a game.)
