Deleted posts

I am contemplating a change where deleted posts no longer have their file deleted. They would still be hidden from the main listing and mods would still have the ability to delete the post entirely.

So the main change would be that mods can still see the image after it's deleted? Or was there something else too?

I could make it mod-only. But yes, that's the gist.

It might be useful if deleted posts were made available to image-search engines, so that people trying to upload non-identical copies of deleted images could be properly warned away.

I would really like that feature too for my own board.

"Still be hidden", as in, they are hidden from the main listing now as well? I can see deleted posts (not the pictures) in the main listing ...
If they are to be hidden from the main listing for members/privs, it would perhaps be a good idea to allow the poster to see his own deleted posts, not necessarily with the picture showing; if anything at all, maybe just the thumbnail when the post is opened.

Additionally,
When I delete my own posts, it will most likely be because I have found a larger version of the picture. I have little interest in leaving crumbs, but as it is, I have no choice.

The idea is okay. But would it be better if someone will tell why it will be deleted ( not just by 3 days expiration). I think a comment to the pic to be deleted may give the poster the idea why it didn't fit to the tastes of the mods. So he can adjust or can delete his post himself.

May I ask if the poster can also see his deleted post?
And yup, it's better if we can see our deleted posts even on thumbnails.

The idea sounds great since the mods would ultimately still be able to remove posts that need to be removed.

Since the images are no longer deleted, how about an un-delete button for mods?
