Cleaning up the 'get' tag

Posted under Tags

The wiki for get says:

Either the text "get" is in the picture, or the picture was uploaded where one of its tags or its image number reaches a milestone number, such as 100,000

While the first usage is objective, the second is meta. I propose only using the first definition and nuking the tag from posts that fit the second. I'll start doing it if there are no objections, but I don't see a good reason to keep it.

the picture was uploaded where one of its tags [...] reaches a milestone number, such as 100,000

The post count of tags at the time a post was uploaded isn't preserved anywhere. Under this definition, whether the tag is correct or not can't even be ascertained except immediately after the image is first uploaded.

or its image number reaches a milestone number, such as 100,000

This doesn't seem particularly useful, as users who want to find posts with ids like 100000, 200000, etc, can just type the id in manually.

So +1 for removing those parts of the definition.

Three's a crowd, +1 for nuking. On one hand, the tag is so small you can argue the benefits of such a move, but I agree that meta knowledge has nothing to do with the artwork uploaded/tagged that caused those numbers to tick up to the right place. Tagging the umpteenth post as get completely ignores the "tag what you see [in the image]" principle.

While similar, I believe it's two sides of the same coin. They both show metadata. A hits work is made by the artist when he/she reaches a milestone on her website--it shows metadata for a website, however that metadata is part of the original image itself. In that sense, it works like all the other text indication tags like mukyuu, ..., desu, etc.

When using get in regards to danbooru post count, the metadata has nothing to do with the original work.

Isn't this similar to the hits tag?

I got confused by that too. No, it's more like that annoying *chan meme of flooding posts trying to get 100,000 GET! when the post count for the board nears 100,000. Except we can go back and retroactively tag here, so not as much crapflooding.
