  • 咲夜の影

    この砂時計はひっくり返せません。 聞くところによると、今日は天子の日らしいじゃないか。まあ、そんなこととは関係なく咲夜の影です。

    Sakuya's Shadow

This hourglass cannot be turned over. According to what I heard, today is like Tenshi's Day. Well, here's Sakuya's shadow regardless.

This would be a perfect shadow for Sakuya. I'll not be the only on who could just tell by the thumbnail that it was a Persona reference.

It certainly makes some sense; in addition to the obvious reference to how Sakuya can manipulate time, it also touches upon the common fanon concern about Sakuya's mortality -- that is, that compared to the other inhabitants of the SDM, she's the one who's most likely to die before everyone else, considering only natural causes . . . for after all, 'all answer to the hourglass'.

Assuming she's not a Lunarian with an effectively infinite lifespan, which would match with how Akyu thinks she's older than she seems, and explain how she's not already bent with age considering how often she experiences faster time than the rest of the world.

But as a Lunarian, she's still effectively a human, and much more fragile than her youkai family. One bad accident is all it will take.

And with flandre around that is a distinct possibility.

don't lunarians lose said long lifespan when tainted by the "impurities of human life"? or am i somehow completely misinformed? but if i'm correctly informed then Sakuya could very well be a lunarian and not have it matter. She's worked with reimu and marisa before and takes part in average life in Gensokyo. Surely it'd be enough to taint her, so to speak.

There's also her stage song, though it was a pocketwatch of blood, not an hourglass... but the concept of time is still there.

Lunarians do lose their infinite lifespan when they come to Earth. This was mentioned in Stage 6A in IN (I think it was Border Team) If Eirin doesn't drink the Hourai Elixir, she's pretty much a normal human and would die eventually. So in order to keep her promise to Kaguya, she had to drink the elixir to be immortal with her.
