    Have you ever read Making sense of Japanese ?
    It's fascinating. One of the things it suggests is that you shouldn't get rid of subjects/objects just because they're not mentioned in a Japanese sentence.
    So, aka is red. akai is a complete sentence, "It is red," "They are red."
    EDIT: Actually, I should say "demands" Every other page the author reminds you that you can't kill off the subject/object just because it's unstated. He calls it the "zero pronoun," I/you/he/she/it all get translated as a conspicuous absence in Japanese, and vice versa.

    So, 赤 is red. 赤い is a complete sentence, "It is red," "They are red."

    I think 赤 => red color
    赤い => red

    As in, in English, you can say "Red!" but not "The red color!" in this context.

    赤 is the noun, red. If you remember those google ads from several months ago, What do you use google for or something, there are a bunch of Japanese girls shopping for dresses with GIS and a projector screen. One asks, "What color?" and one responds, "赤!" "Red!"
    赤い is the adjective, but it's an -い adjective. That means it can be used, by itself, as a predicate. Like in the Iosys song, Overdrive: ウサギは目が赤い. Rabbits! Their eyes are red. (And note that it's "their eyes are red," not, "Eyes are red." It's the zero pronoun at work again. Rabbits have red eyes would be better English, but doesn't illustrate the grammar well.)

    Are we disagreeing on something? I do not see any contradiction is our statements.

    May I hypothesize that English grammar requires a pronoun but it does not always confer much information. He/she/it can differentiate between person and objects and between genders, but the utility is often limited. In a conversation about multiple men, for example, having the pronoun "he" or not is not of much semantic value.

    *pause*

    I looked up the link of the book now. I see the author argues that the subject can be found in Japanese text. I guess my point was that the subject is not actually easier to find in English, just because there is a pronoun. There is contextual guessing involved, only that the guesswork is easy because the language is familiar.

    I've always doubdted about this lines. Since fairies often scared of some yokaies and monsters (despite what was said about stupidity) and since Shikieiki warned Cirno about probability to go to hell.

    But they still do. Touhou Sangetsusei confirms it. But still dying brings much pain, you know. Mokou is immortal too, but that doesn't mean she fights all the time.

    Hmmm... I've read Sangetsusei (translated chapters) again and only found that fairies of light will only "freeze to death" until the sunrise.
    If not assume that they died from those snake-mushrooms.

    In order for us to survive without incident, I'll have to make sure that nothing irritates Yuuka-san for as long as I can...
    They're red!
    It's the only way...!
    This is the first time I've ever seen any!
    Mysty!!
    Whoaaa! They're red—red!
    What's wrong with you? Hurry over here!
    Come over here and look too, Mysty!
    Sooob
    A pair of pure red panties!
    But... Now that she says it, it's true.
