I wanna ask, how do you rocket jump? I can do the long and high jump without the crouch, but a friend said that you take less damage and jump further using the crouch, and I can't for the life of me do it.

Crouch-jump (hold the crouch button - it's usually left-ctrl), aim at feet, fire, then grab some air.
