This was an error on the author's part. There are multible western buildings in Gensokyo. For a short list: Scarlet Devil Mansion Marisa's House (although this one was possibly not built yet at doujin present time, remember Sakuya's age is questionable) Alice's House The Poltergeist Mansion (the Prisimriver's mansion) And a few other assorted random buildings that have been popping up since the sengoku jidai (if you follow the 'logic in gensokyo' theories)...

Sorry to disappoint you, but Alice's and Marisa's houses might not have made it to Gensokyo at this time, given that Sakuya's age is unidentificable. Remember that Alice only came to Gensokyo after Touhou 5, which is no more than 10 years ago (assuming that the PC-98 era can be considered canon); and Marisa is basically just a brat whose house is also less than 10 years old. And the Poltergeist Mansion is in the Netherworld, which is, strictly speaking, not a part of Gensokyo. That makes the SDM the only Western building

Sorry to disapoint you, but: I said that on Marisa's house. PC-98 has been Retconned, Alice has been in the Forest of Magic for many years. Last I checked (willing to admit possibility of being wrong here) the Polterghiest Mansion was off the Nameless Hill and the Poltergheist Sisters do not actually reside in the Underworld. Do recall that Layla Prisimriver was a Human and the mansion is in the same exact spot that it was when she lived in it. AND the fact that variant western buildings have gone missing since the formation of Gensokyo, logic (gensokyo variant) states that they would have ended up in Gensokyo.
Also, the trump, there's the fact that the SDM is impled to have moved to Gensokyo during Reimu's lifetime when Marisa was already living on her own. (~10 years ago, the Vampire Incident/the formation of the spellcard rules, Zun has implied in places that it was Remilia to blame) Therefore, SDM is not and cannot be the only Western-style building in Gensokyo.
