The joke is two fold; first the joke is that this scene is based off a scene in JoJo's Bizare Adventure when Jotaro survives a fatal knife wound from Dio because it hit a copy of Shonen Jump (yes he had a copy of Shonen Jump with him while on a trip to Egypt to slay a vampire that been dogging his family for generations just roll with it) instead of his vitals, the second is that it's a bit of joke (to western fans at least) that Soma's jeans look like something a jeans model would wear (as oppose to a transfer student)
