Can anybody comment on the difference between the German phrase in the image and the simpler "Glückliches Geburtstag"?

The phrase in the picture, or "Herzlichen Glückwunsch" more precisely, translates to congratulations.
Directly translating "Happy Birthday" into German doesn't work, as that doesn't exist in German.
It's just a quirk with the language I suppose.

If you've actually read "Glückliches Geburtstag" somewhere, it was from some terrible translation. ^^"
