Wasn't this due to in the Marvel universe, Loki was defeated and then reincarnated as a woman? (I do not know much about Marvel lore.)

It was after Ragnarok, all Asgardian were reborn on Earth, but Loki managed to swipe Sif body, claiming to Thor, that he was reborn as girl as punishment for his part in Ragnarok, and while, Loki put Sif soul into a dying old lady.
