Right, right. That's why one of the long-last goals I've set in my life is to never succumb to bullshit like that. "Oh I am so adult, well fuck my life, my dreams and my goals, you youngsters have it so good, I'll just go sacrifice anything I have for no apparent reason other than 'I'm an adult now'." It's reasonable when you're already really old and your actions can help young people out of peril, but I'm hearing that crap from people barely over 20.

You didn't quite understand what they meant. Being an adult means maturity, and even a willingness to be selfless. Here, she is willing to sacrifice her own happiness to make sure that other youkai can be treated well. She knows what will happen if it's revised, and while it'd be more accurate, the fact that it could be wrong is the issue here - by showing it being wrong, humans lose their trust in the Momento, and thus the youkai. If that happens, then the correction will have the opposite effect of its intent.

Yuuka understands, and explains this. And being an adult isn't just "I can't have dreams" - it's "My dreams can't cause others pain". Try looking a bit further next time to really see the meaning, okay?

I rather like how this series seems to have gone a long round-about way to being commentary about how some fans regard the select portions of the Gensokyo Chronicle we get to read as "unreliable."

OK, gotcha. In return, I'd appreciate it if next time you spent some time on understanding your opponent's point before you start arguing. Okay?

I wasn't responding to the strip contents, but rather to stereotypical opinion voiced in comments(and later, repeated by you): "Adult should abandon his dreams", or be "willing" to sacrifice himself. I see this point as wrong: to be "willing" not equals to be "ready". Pursuing some idea, dream, spending time on self-development is a way full of obstacles and is tough no matter your age, and may get tougher as you get older, I wouldn't argue with that. But I see a lot of bright, healthy people around me using that as excuse to give up without even trying, and it's really painful to see. Often you can find some compromise, loophole, anything, that will let you continue and succeed, all you really need is a little effort to find it. But no - "I'm already an adult, doing anything besides work is childish, dreams are childish, I'll go turn into gray formless mush and/or make my life a living hell because that's what adults do, right?". And wear the sour look on their faces for the rest of life. That viewpoint is what I can't accept.

Regarding the strip - I understood why Yuuka does that (welp, it's stated rather clearly in the comic), but... Come on. You have a Memento writer AND a history eater standing in front of you and willing to help. They can not just revise an entry, but make it so that it never was there in the first place. Humans will not show any distrust, and you will not have to suffer(?) solitude for the rest of your life. But she's plainly ignoring those possibilities, because she should sacrifice herself and endure on. Yeah, because why not.

Always heart warming to see things like this...the ones that work in the shadows, content with enhancing the light for others.

Ah..... A debate on adult stuff huh? Pointless I think. One has one's own way to see the world. Why argue? Oh, and about giving up dreams? Well, you don't need to be an adult to do so. It just that, it seems many would give up their dreams for something else like other kind of happiness. I don't know. I'm not an adult and just barely a kid.

Edit: THinking back, I think I knew why Yuuka said that. She went through it, and she doesn't want to see it happens to anyone else. Might because of something selfless, might just be that she doesn't want it to replay and cause another kind of pain on herself. And there's the reason of "sometimes, it's just too late for me to keep on hoping, so at least, I don't want to see that play out again or it'll hurt me even more". There are always reasons to such talk, don't hate it because of your one sided prejudices.

Nah, she’s just being stupid. With Keine’s ability, no one will remember the Memento as it was. There is literally no reason for Yuuka to suffer.

The Memento CAN NOT be wrong.
If there's a way for you to fix everything wrong you did, you'd fall down to that fix everytime.

What Kazami Yuuka is doing isn't for the ones who read the Memento, but for the one who made the Memento.
She chose to become the constant reminder for Hiea no Akyuu to remember how much power she has got and how it can hurt others without knowing it.
It applies the same to the ultimate fix for this problem: she can't just use her ability as if it's some magic spell to fix and conceal everything, because it doesn't encourage responsibility.

That's why the sacrifice must be made, for the sake of everyone involved. And yes, that includes Kazami Yuuka, the USC herself.

But from that little, there might be someone who gets treated like me.
Can you be totally sure that wouldn't be Cirno, Rumia or their friends?
    Not just Cirno and Rumia.
Even if looked lightly upon, those childrens' abilities are dangerous enough for humans.
That's why no revision is needed. It shouldn't be done.
    Are you fine with that?
    Don't be stupid.
There's also the spell card rules.
Lets sleep and prepare for tomorrow.
Even if things are set back, it should only be by very little.
Just by controlling insects a little, it's possible to cause famine to human village.
These days may be the ones I dreamed of for so long.
    But I've had enough fun.
I've given up on dreams. After all, I'm already an adult.
Our talk ends here, it's late already.
I've enjoyed the time I've spent with those children.
