My guess is that she's pretending to be a cicada. She even has her own cicada-like cry - kanakanakana. ("Kana?" being her common way of ending sentences.)
As to how she's staying on... she seems to have a pretty good grip. Whether or not she actually stayed on there for long after this "shot" was taken is anyone's guess,though.
