Where the heck do they even get these towels? I see them in anime all the time, but they're the wrong size and proportions to be a standard type- too long to be hand towels, too short and way too narrow to be bath towels.

Japanese wash cloths. Used to scrub the body BEFORE entering the bath. Also purposely made to cover "privates". For this scan she does have the wrong towel. This would be the men's bath towel.
