Not gonna lie, out of all the relationships in this series, it's that of Marisa and Reimu that makes me uncomfortable. The whole thing just smacks of an abusive relationship.

You might wonder what makes that different from Chen and Tewi's relationship. The difference there is that Tewi started out pretty mean, and has been utterly usurped by Chen.

I think the thing that hurts most is that this Marisa doesn't seem to realize how much Reimu is taking advantage of her. Tewi knows her relationship with Chen is abusive and takes masochistic delight in being abused - though perhaps Tewi should be seen as more of a switch, submissive to Chen but abusive of others.

Oh I'm pretty sure Marisa realises what Reimu's doing to her; it'd take someone seriously stupid to avoid noticing that. As I see it, the only real difference between her and Tewi is that Marisa is trying to hang onto some semblance of normality through denial of her true (masochistic) nature, whereas Tewi embraces it with abandon.

Of course, the distinction here isn't between whether it's right or not, rather what flavour of wrongness it is. At least the lovebirds are happy with each other.
