I am more interested in which current event would this be reffering to.
japan is having a low birth rate issue. MANY things are contributing to it but what seems to be the most major issue is more and more young people aren't getting married or having kids, that kind of stuff, and that's negatively effecting japan's overall population.

Seiga fled from a marriage, but there's no canon mention of she having kids, or even if the thing was consummated. The Watatsuki sisters are also married, but we don't know about Lunarian marriage. Maybe it's something for convenience only, since everybody there is exceedingly long-lived.
Mind, I'm not trying to defend the virginity of the touhous. In my mind-canon, some of them had and have a healthy dose of sex, but in canon, things are surprisingly child-safe.
All I get out of this is, Sanae, who dwarfs Suwako in manifested size, height, and apparent physical maturity, is her great-something granddaughter.
The one who had a baby is one of the younger-looking cast members... just seems so wrong. And so right at the same time.
Moreover, can't ancestry be traceable through one's grandparent's siblings? I hate to sound like I'm defending the virginity of the cast, like _cf said, but consider the other 'current event' or 'real-world' images... some of them have quirky characters acting out quirks similar to that of the particular current event. Sex, however, is pretty much ubiquitous to all life, and all of the Touhou cast presumably as well. It's more likely the artist chose Suwako as a propagator for babies because frogs produce dozens and dozens of eggs per laying period, thus solving the deficiency of people more expeditedly. I really think it's that, or a coincidence that it's her, but it is interesting and painful to speculate that she's being used as a baby-making-machine just out of "practicality". (EDIT: Read wiki. That's not true. She's a shinto god and they can make kids in other ways than sex. Remember, the main shinto trio were created from their father only washing his face.
Gods of all patheons can make people from nothingness with no sex involved. Christ and immaculate conception is one of the big examples.
