Well to be fair, most Touhou fans don't give two shits about the pc-98 era.

That's probably because the games aren't numbered in the japanese titles.

So much soft fluffy cuteness...I feel Hammer's style fits much better to "regular" portraiture than the erotic stuff.

Outside of Mima and/or Yuuka, most people just don't care about PC98 stuff unless it's for trivia question answers.
