Apparently, in the old days before they had dedicated dog or cat food, that was what Japanese families gave their pets. After all, miso and rice are the most likely things to be left over after a Japanese meal, and the least likely to make an animal seriously ill (I think).

And you can't give them very strongly seasoned dishes either. That's why it has to be thin soup, and the biscuits had very little taste for Ikazuchi.
