Many of their American counterparts were scrapped and/or disposed of in a similar manner after the war's end; although we could find solace in that quite a few were spared and are now museums, to a greater or less extent. Regardless, we also can argue that their scrapping allowed their spirits to move on, and to await rebirth in a more peaceful world.

It's quite sad since almost all of the USN most decorated and useful warships that served the war got scrapped.

USS Enterprise CV-6 - The sole survivor of the Yorktown-class aircraft carriers, totally thrashed the IJN from Midway to Okinawa while repeatedly absorbing damages from her enemies, 20 battle stars. Most decorated USN ship of WW2. She was sold on July 1, 1958 for scrapping.

USS San Diego CL-53 - She escorted many notable carriers that played a large role in the war which includes Lexington CV-16 and Enterprise CV-6. She's also the most formidable ship for AA defense and a participant of many engagements. 18 battle stars. Most decorated USN cruiser of WW2. She was sold for scrapping December 1960.

USS O'Bannon DD-450 - A brave little destroyer and a veteran of the Solomons, she survived many destroyer-vs-destroyer engagements who she's always one of the first to charge. Even Halsey was amaze of her gallantry. 17 battle stars. Most decorated USN destroyer of WW2. Scrapped on June 6, 1970.

USS Tautog SS-199 - The submarine that scored the most number of enemy ships sunk. After the war, they let her deteriorate and eventually she was scrapped on July 1, 1960.

USS England DE-635 - The Destroyer Escort notably for sinking 6 submarines within twelve days, considered as one of the most successful ships for ASW. She was sold and broken up on November 26, 1946.

They should at least preserved these ships.

I said 'almost all', means that there have some had been preserved like the five of the Essex, the Iowas, Kidd, Cavalla, Pampanito, Laffey, Alabama, Massachusetts, old Texas and several more.

Yukikaze was acquired by the Republic of China (the current Taiwan and not the PRC) on July 7, 1947 and named as ROCS Tang Yan.

After the WW2, China resumed their civil war between the ROC which leaded by Chiang Kai-shek and the CPC (Communist Party of China) under the leadership of Mao Zedong which started since April 12, 1927. The CPC takeover the whole mainland China and pushes the ROC to Formosa which is now Taiwan and the CPC becomes the current People's Republic China.

Yukikaze still maintain her reputation as an unsinkable ship since she's able to survive the Chinese Civil War, she's even notable for transporting Chiang Kai-shek to Formosa during the last stages of the civil war.

Her luck somehow runs out after being damaged by a typhoon, she was scrapped afterwards.

Legally, there's no Taiwan, there's only China, albeit the PRC, and the ROC (which BTW, constitutionally also claim sovereignty of the mainland), but both are China. It's in sort of a limbo or else things will get terrible.

I'm not sure why the USN decided to do that... But I guess they either can't handle maintaining such ships for preserving them or they need resources (which they always had) to build a more modern fleet.

Still wish they just give those Destroyers to another country so they can serve a little longer.

Resources are scarce that's why they're needed to be scrapped, though they already got thousand of ships to scrapped, they should have spared these ships. (Halsey somehow failed to raise two million dollars within 6 months to turn Enterprise into a national shrine, though they believed that the USS Enterprise CVN-65 shall carry the legacy of the late carrier.)

Also O'Bannon is probably one my favorites (next to Shinano though), she manage to save herself and to sunk a submarine with the help of potatoes.

    Hey, think about this:

    4 battleships sunk
    3 battleships damaged
    1 battleship grounded
    2 other ships sunk
    3 cruisers damaged
    3 destroyers damaged
    3 other ships damaged

all this brutally done by some of those japanese ship girls during the pearl harbour attack and you may stop the sad tears.

If the japs insist on using the USA navy as the enemy on their comics we shouldn't feel any sadness for the destiny of any of the japanese girls. A soldier knows that part of her job is dying and in the end they decided war.

I'd rather look at it from the direction that loss of life and materiel on both sides is sad and disappointing. Both sides had beautiful ships and brave "men" (generally boys, really) sent to the bottom and neither case is a cause for joy, even the scrappings.

Yes. For instance, the battleship USS Texas is a museum ship and there's currently an attack sub with that name.

I think Krugger isn't being one-sided here, World War 2 is humanity's worst conflict that inflicted massive lost of life from both sides, also both sides had committed horrible atrocities during the war, studying about these facts will make you feel bad, not just for Japan or the US but for everyone got involved in the war.

The IJN indeed attacked Pearl Harbor without any warnings which result heavy lost of men and materials but the USN destroyed the Kido Butai during the Battle of Midway, they killed Admiral Yamamoto during Operation Vengeance, reenacted the Pearl Harbor attack at Yokosuka and Kure, their B-29s bombed several places in the mainland Japan including Tokyo plus the two atomic bombs dropped at Hiroshima and Nagasaki that caused massive civilian casualties, those things are enough (or probably too much) retribution for the Pearl Harbor attack and to humiliate Japan for what they've done.

The devs already stated that they will include USN ships, it's quite interesting seeing both the IJN and the USN working together against alien invasion, though we'll be expecting rivalries between these two navies.

I assume that's why you'll see designation numbers so often for those that had them. The Texas is a bit of a bad example since USS Texas was a battleship of the 1890s before we really started numbering things. But, then you'll generally see USS Texas (BB-35), USS Texas (CGN-39), and USS Texas (SSN-775) in texts to represent the various vessels even when it feels obvious which one is being discussed.

There's one thing I don't understand much, here they show Hatsuyuki going to scuttle Murakumo while the other website said that was done by Shirayuki.

Unless that's a mistake made by the maker.

On the topic of USN ships I wonder if I shall see Nagato meet Independence

By August 1945, surrendering really was the best thing that Japan could do.

Ushio remained in Yokosuka for repair and finally scrapped after the end of the war
Takao was heavily damaged and couldn't return to Japan, so she was berthed in Singapore. After the surrender of Johor Naval Base in September 1945, she was towed away to be used as a target ship.
i-58 was on patrol. She returned on August 18th to Kure and was scuttled on April 1 1946.
Houshou was mainly used as a training ship in home water and didn't participate in battle. During the bombing of Kure, she was only lightly damaged. After war, she was sent on repatriation mission before finally getting scrapped.
Nagato stayed in Japan's Yokosuka port. After the war, she was taken by American forces and used in the Operation Crossroads nuclear bomb test.
August 14th 1945, Japan accepted the Potsdam Declaration The next day on August 15th, this was broadcasted through imperial voice broadcast
Jun'you was severely damaged and stayed in Sasebo port. After war, assessment declared her beyond repair and she was scrapped.
Hibiki was not deployed and survived the war. After the war, she was given to the Soviet navy and renamed Verniy, and later Dekabrist before being used as a target ship and sunk. She lies off Karamzina Island, near Vladivostok, at a depth of 27 meters, and is a popular destination for recreational diving.
Like Takao, Myoukou was stranded in Singapore by heavy, irreparable damage that left her unable to return to Japan. She remained in Singapore until the end of the war and was eventually scuttled.
Kitakami was damaged by Allied bombing while docked in Kure. After the war she was designated a repair ship until finally being scrapped in 1946.
Yukikaze survived the war and Operation Ten-Go. Given to the Republic of China and renamed Tan Yang; served as the flagship of its Navy into the 1960s before running aground during a typhoon and subsequently being scrapped in the early 1970s.
