These Azumanga "parodies" would be a lot better if they actually tried to change the plot to fit the characters, rather than just have the exact same plot with different-looking people. This exact same thing was done with Touhou, as well. It's like Endless Eight, where it's the same episode, but with different clothes.

For what it's worth, it's working fine for me, because I don't know a dang thing about what it's parodying. I'm not saying you're wrong overall, just noting that to to me, at least, it simply comes across as wacky cuteness involving Nagato being hapless and adorable. :)
