Which doesn't matter because he's not talking about guns, he's using a figure of speech.
Unless you were equally as bothered by the common fansub translation of the scene which used "kick reason to the curb" which overlooked the fact that Kamina wouldn't know what a curb is.

I would imagine underground villages to have curbs. In their situation no one would know what a gun is..so putting it into a figure of speech would be absurd. Suggesting he'd know what a gun is well enough to put it into a figure of speech is insane. It's just a horrible choice of translation.
