    ハートフル路線の合間にちょっとマジメなシーンも挟んで行きたいと思います。
    33pと34pが書きたかったので、それ以降は蛇足パートです。

    艦娘は法律の適用外なのでごあんしんください

Why do high ranking commanding officers always have prejudice against Living weapons? Sure they ARE weapon and all, but didn't they consider that when they made 'em with THAT kind of appearance? Plot device ?
Not just this, it's also like that in X-men, Captain America, Hulk, The Transformers... and more!

Seems to be usual standard fare, and then there will always be a "few" that actually see the living weapons as beings with an actual conscience. The persona robots in Persona 3/4 were also kinda had it bad before Mitsuru came along.

What is HUMAN? What is HUMANITY!?
I just read this from somewhere: "I don't know why they called it that, but having humanity doesn't mean that you had to be human."

As for that, I think the To Aru tittle pretty much explained it. I mean, Accelerator wanted to get the power that will overwhelm all so that he can get some peace not being crept out so he treated the Misaka Imoutos like nothing but lab rats or pretend to do so. Same with pretty much every other researchers. The two taking care of the cloned girls are very so. One say and acted like she doesn't care, one still confused with normal human girls. Then there's Nunotaba, the teacher-researcher who I forgot her name. That's those who go in contact with them. Those at the top who don't go into contact with them will not have such thinking, even if they do, they will push it all aside for their purposes.

Not that they don't treat other humans human, or ship-girls humans, it's that they don't see other ways doing it as sufficient. Humanoid are somehow easier to talk/command to you see, as for many thousands of years it's human go into wars with each other. Or that's how I like to think it is.

As I read, "Human" is just a word to call those standing on 2 legs, using arms as main way to contact to their surroundings, living in a society/a huge pack spreads around this Earth...... "Humanity" is the word to indicate "compassion", "kindness", etc, everything that has a nice ring to it. That's how it's understood among most "people". Some sees "evil", "greed", etc are part of "Humanity" too. That, I don't know. Just stating it out.

I remember reading a book talking about the American Slave Trade. In it, a pastor referred to people's treatment of slaves saying, "We have to believe that they are not human, for if we did, we would be forced to conclude that we are not Christian." The point of the chapter was how racism was, if not outright created, at least became so deeply rooted specifically because of slavery.

If you're going to abuse someone, there's no way to look at yourself as human anymore unless you can somehow convince yourself that the people you are abusing isn't a human, and therefore deserves it. (Which would go back to the Scientific Railgun thing Demundo said.)

As for the rest about why this "always happens", just keep in mind that it's pretty much a staple of fiction to always have at least SOMEONE who is in a position of power over the heroes who is a jerk. If the good guys are buddy cops, there's always Da Chief breathing down their neck, calling them a "Loose Cannon" for saving the day in some manner but going by the book. The FBI is always like this in American cop shows unless the heroes are FBI. (In which case, there's always a political bureaucrat manager higher up who plays the quasi-evil meddler in justice role.)

It generally creates more tension in the drama over a longer period of time to have an antagonist the heroes can't just punch or shoot and send packing in 5 minutes of action scene, after all.

Sometimes it has little to do with personality and more to do with pragmatism. The higher-up person might not be a jerkass in person, but due to need he may have persuaded himself that treating his underlings like tools and not humans is necessary. Which in some cases can be justified, or so I would think. The danger is that, like NWSiaCB's quote above, justifying inhumane decisions would over time cause the person to actually believe in the righteousness/validity of his cause, if not his methods.

In fact, I have this feeling that Matsuda himself may be in the danger of falling into this trap over time, should he be one of the brass too.

Re-reading this sure makes me think that Danbooru has quite a number of philosophers. Haha.

I am a commander. I will order even normal people to their deaths, and follow them to the grave. Whether or not those girls are human does not change a thing.
You're not confusing them with humans, are you? Didn't I tell you not to be hasty in ascribing any feelings?
