Actually, Tauros can learn Surf, surprisingly enough.

I love the cool sunglasses Blue and Tauros are sporting.

What? Taurus can learn Surf but Magikarp can't?

Does it have enough power to hold a human being? Hell no. Keep in mind that some water pokemon can't learn both Dive and Surf like Wingull and Pelipper.

In the anime, Ash's Snorlax originally just swam really well from Island to Island eating whatever it could find.

My guess is that Surf just doesn't really have any specific rules or anything, as long as you're big or a water, normal or ice type that's all it takes.

And even then I wondered what the hell those guys are doing alone in the open sea swimming back and forth.

Nidoking and Nidoqueen can surf too, and they are Ground types. Hell, the anime showed Rhydon surfing.

Reminded me that IT IS FUNNY the fact that Pikachu can learn Surf :/

Just a reminder, Pikachu can learn Fly too.

In the manga, I believe he actually long jumps from island to island. Apparently snorlax is insanely athletic when hungry.
