The thing is, the admiral in charge basically explains his plan is to make the Shipgirls' lives as much a living Hell as possible on purpose because he thinks the only way to beat abyssals powered by hate is to have even more hatred on your side... derp. Hence, killing off the only admiral that's nice to them on purpose just to infuriate them. What could possibly go wrong with intentionally pissing off living war machines of power you can't possibly stop?!
