Well Naruto is a ninja despite running around in a bright orange jumpsuit so I won't judge Hibiki too critically.

And wandering vagabond swordsmen. It's pretty much a code for "I'm the lovable rogue in this story, you may love me now" characters in Japanese literature set in the past. Bismarck has some interesting reading material (or Japanese research).
