I'm going to throw out a guess but perhaps it started with her official profile description.

She's a bright, fun-loving youkai if you get to know her, so she's popular among the youkai that live underground.

A lot of characters don't have that much background information for them, but Yamame's 'idol' character seems to be especially fan-inflated, going from 'fun-loving' to 'karaoke goddess'.
