Well it's not explicitly stated what happens when scrapping. Darker works of course go for execution, while lighter works have the shipgirls' EQUIPMENT dismantled, while the girl herself simply becomes a normal person released back into society. But yeah, the term "scrap" leaves a bad taste in my mouth nowadays thanks to Kancolle.
