There's nothing to be scared of. The worst thing about a speculum is that it can be unpleasantly cold at first.

You may be right. Just about any solid item inserted into the uterus will cause sterility. Metal is used for most part, because it's clean and simple. I wouldn't trust that octopus not a single bit though.

everyone... speculums arent going to hurt you. unless the person inserting it is a moron. while it is usually a cold device, its not bad. now if used improperly, it can hurt. but so can miss use of a dildo or douche.. but its perfectly ok for use by a trained professional.
