    浦風が来てくれて助かった 【ああ日刊桐沢96／広島百景】

    爽やかでシンプルで、どこか瀟洒なところがある650形のたたずまいは、どこか浦風ちゃんに似ています。色味も近いしの♪ 磯風ちゃんもそう思いおるはずじゃ。

    650形電車は堺の木南車輛製造で生産され、そのまま5台が広島にやって来ました。原子爆弾による空襲を受けて大破や半焼の被害を受けた時は、まだ３年目の新型車両でした。

    今回、保存されていた3号車が整備を受け70年前の姿にペイントされて市内を走りました。今週末の土曜日から8月末まで「被爆70年プロジェクト」の一環として運行されます。

    Hiroden 653, 3rd unit of the Hiroshima Electric Railway 's 650 series (all built in 1942), was repainted into its former scheme around the time this was posted.

    All five 650 series units were damaged when the nuclear bomb hit Hiroshima in 1945 (there's a well-known photo of Hiroden 651 taken three days after the attack) but were repaired and put back into service after war's end. As far as I know, 651, 652, and 653 are still in active service and 654 was retired to the Hiroshima City Transportation Museum in 2006. 655 was not so lucky and survived being the most badly damaged by the bomb of the five, only to be scrapped after a collision with a truck in 1967.
