That has to be the easiest capture I've ever seen. Satoshi didn't even beat the crap out of Noibat first.

Nah, in virtually every season, Ash always had a pokemon that he made friends before the capture even started.
Take Charmander for example. Sure he still threw it, but essentially the same thing, He already earned Charmander's trust so he let himself be captured.

Even if he did keep Pidgiot, he still doesn't re-use pokemon through the seasons baring in mind Charizard or Pikachu. I if anything, Butterfree, Pidgiot, Bayleef and such were saved a fate of forever sitting back at Prof Oak's place forever.
Technically Primeate and Squirtle are "In training" and were not "Released" but I think at this point, we all know that they were completely forgotten to never show up again.
