Should we consider changing the character's name? The anime so far seems to predominately use Momonga for his name and the anime's website puts the Momonga name first (well spelled Momomga) and then lists the Ainz Ooal Gown name.

Well papa bones, decided to call himself Ainz Ooal Gown as he's naturally, with the black knight armor or other situations, he decides to call himself Momon or Momonga, the tag is right

No self respecting MMO player takes himself that seriously.

RP guilds do. Some can get kinda freaky.

Well if he chooses to use that name after the fact then I'm more inclined to use the name he starts with, which going by the anime is Momonga. Screencap Ep. 01.

I don't think we'll need to have two separate character tags for him when he's in his armor when we can just use the one name tag and the full_armor tag to find images of him when wearing the armor.

Hmm... just to be the Devil's Advocate, I'd argue to leave it as Ainz Ooal Gown. Reason being: once he begins using the name from Episode 3 or 4 or whenever he starts using it, it will be the name he uses for the rest of the entire anime run (Season 1, 2, 3, to whenever it ends). Far as the light novel goes, he stopped using Momonga after Volume 1. From Volume 2 to Volume 9 he's been identified as Ainz. More or less... Momonga WAS his name. A major part of his character evolution is becoming the new persona of Ainz (and at times, whether he wants to or not). Ainz is what he will be identified as for the bulk of the series... outside of his Momon alter ego of course.

Basically... Momonga is who he WAS in Yggdrasil (the past). Ainz is who he IS in the New World (the present and the future).
In fact, the specifics and knowing of the name becomes a plot point later down the line... but its a spoiler going into too deeply than that...

Or just make it simple: Momonga is his "personal" name, as his NPC minions address him as such, while Ainz Ooal Gown is his "public" name in the New World.

Once he changes his name to Ainz, NO ONE will address him as Momonga anymore. Not even his NPC minions. They will start calling him Ainz-sama.

His names in the New World are Ainz (as the lich) and Momon (as the dark warrior). That's all he will ever be known as.

His real name was Satoru Suzuki on Earth... his old, retired gaming name was Momonga. A major plot point is that his old guild mates will call him Momonga -- NOT Ainz. It's like a test. If anyone claims to remember him from the original Yggdrasil MMO, they should call him Mononga in their first encounter. A liar/pretender would call him Ainz or Momon.

"Momonga" will become an unused secret name only he, his old friends from Earth, and his minions would know. The minions will be ordered to NEVER use it again.

If we're basing the character name, on which will be used the most for the entire duration of the anime/novel... Ainz is the name that will be used the most. Momonga will not be heard of again, except for specific plot points or flashbacks.

Those specific argument aren't good ones and wouldn't be used on their own to justify the use of that name, so you need to use different arguments for the justification. The frequency argument doesn't add any value, as we use the introduced real name Kasuga Ayumu, despite the fact that after the initial introduction you'll never see that name used again in their series. The naming change argument is also only questionable at best, as where do you draw the line on which name is the one to use and which isn't? What if the character changes their name more than once? It's best to keep it simple and stick to the name they were introduced with than go through the hassle of having to delve into their story and events that haven't happened yet in the medium that will likely be the one to influence the artists the most.

For naming we generally use either the character's full name (when not a spoiler) or their initial introduced name.

edit:The form of Momonga doesn't change from what I've been shown, and we do not need to differentiate between him wearing armor and not wearing armor due to the difference being having or not having full_armor. His real life name would be associated with his original human form, so that would also not be used as the name for the character.

I have nothing more to add. As said before: just playing the role of Devil's Advocate. Whatever the community and/or mods agree upon, will get no further bellyaching from me. :)

It's not a matter of taking himself seriously, he changed his name to Ainz Ooal Gown because that was the name of his old, very well-known guild. So he's hoping that, if there are other players in the new world, they will hear about the deeds of one "Ainz Ooal Gown" and gravitate towards him.
