Possibly in the first arc, Yuudachi was not thinking that she herself was Stephanie, but at how closely her features resembled Stephanie and realized Yura mistakened her for the dog. Notice that Yuudachi was crying. Perhaps the post traumatic stress of remembering Stephanie's death and yet not wanting to break the news to Yura caused her to pretend that she was Stephanie.

Is that really weird, pretty sure that is the common consensus still

This story is kinda reminds me of Final Fantasy VII, more or less...

I think Yuudachi cried because she realised that taking Stephanie's place didn't mean being Yura's friend, it meant becoming Stephanie.

That was my initial reaction and what I thought was the general interpretation. Apparently I got my speculah and cannon backwards.

Could be she at first didn't realise that Yura is Stephanie's Yura. Then realise that, oh, she IS THAT YURA, and finally, realise that all those while Yura never saw Yuudachi as Yuudachi, but as Stephanie.

Then she wore that Oh Crap face in the end.
