Admiral Shiro does have something in common with his Akebono, hence why he trolls her all the time: they both go in the most tsundere ways of making the ones they care for happy, though Admiral is a lot more savvy about it.

He didn't go into rampant denial, like Akebono - he's just not above trolling everyone in the course of making them happy.

I think I'm kind of the same as admiral Shiro in this particular perspective...... Which, I think of as an honor.

I wonder if this guy sent the subs to recover Yuudachi's equipment because they were better equipped to find it; all the while sending Shigure to practice to cool her head and not have to worry about its recovery.

I don't think he sent the subs to recover equipment. But he probably sent them on an expedition nearby and told them that Yuudachi's gear had sunk around those coordinates.
