Hardly. I've just finished up to volume 4 and the mood is generally boisterous. There's a lot of hotbloodedness; in fact Destroyer shipgirls, the main subject of the story, are described as spirited young ladies that hate losing and love a good brawl. It does have its heavy moments but it'll be a stretch to call it grimdark =3
